I run a number of weekly Hand and Free-machine Embroidery Classes throughout the year at my studio, as well as regular One-day Workshops; run by myself or Guest Tutors.

Experiment and have fun with Free-machine Embroidery and take home a finished piece of your own design.
The workshop will begin with me showing you how to set up your sewing machine for this technique.
Bring your own machine with a darning foot for free-machine embroidery. I have spare machines at the studio for those who would like to borrow one.
We will experiment with drawing with the machine, then go on to use a range of fabrics to collage and appliqué with: creating samples and then a final appliqué picture.
This one day workshop is suitable for beginners, and for those with experience.
The workshop includes all materials, refreshments, snacks & homemade cake. Just bring a packed lunch.
Alysn Midgelow-Marsden, an award winning Textile Artist, will be returning to the studio this autumn (all the way from New Zealand!) to run two fabulous one day workshops.
'Angelina fibres are well known for their iridescent lustre and simplicity of use. You will be making the most of the ‘non-bondable’ range of fibres to create a panel for adding to a panel, purse or glasses case etc.
Finished with machine or hand stitch, couched accent threads and a smattering of beads, this could be either a pretty, subtle or dramatic panel with ideas to expand your techniques and to use on other projects.

'Create a panel or small three dimensional sculpture, vessel, lamp cover, bag or wearable accessory using a combination of woven metals, Lutradur, burning techniques, machine appliqué and lots of beads and hand embellishments.
Transform metal fabric by clothing it in Lutradur which we will then burn away with soldering irons and heat guns, add interest and complexity to the surface with more stitch, beads and wires if you want to add another dimension.
This workshop achieves results more quickly if using a sewing machine for some of the time, however hand stitchers will also have no difficulty in creating a lovely, textured artwork.'

Come and spend a day making lovely festive themed decorations and cards.
With a wide range of Christmassy fabrics, ribbons, braids, buttons & trims to choose from, we will be making Christmas decorations and cards using free-machine embroidery and/or hand embroidery.
Perfect for the Christmas tree, a handmade gift or for secret Santa.
There will be a selection of ready made templates to use, lots of festive images for inspiration, or create your own design to work from.
All materials, trims, refreshments & homemade cake included.

My Tuesday morning hand embroidery classes are fun and friendly stand alone sessions. Each week we focus on a different hand stitch or embroidery technique.
I encourage an experimental approach, playing around with different ways of creating the stitches, trying out a wide variety of threads and materials from my collection.
There are lots of samples and embroidery books to look at for inspiration too.
All materials are provided as well as a regular supply of drinks and snacks throughout the sessions.
My Wednesday morning Free-Machine Embroidery classes are suitable for beginners and those experienced with a sewing machine.
At the start of each class I suggest a different theme often inspired by the seasons, colours, artists etc. and will show a sample, demo or images as a starting point.
These are fun, relaxed and friendly sessions where you work at your own pace, you are very welcome to bring along your own idea or project to work on, and I am on hand to help and advise.
We use a wide variety of materials including fabrics, paper, wool, threads, buttons, beads, fabric paints etc. and experiment with different techniques to draw with a sewing machine.
Examples of projects students have made are handmade cards, pictures, seasonal decorations, cushion covers, project bags, lavender bags, hanging hearts and lots more!
